Musical Director

Chong Lim

Chong Lim is an accomplished keyboardist, musical director, arranger and producer. He is the longstanding musical director of the John Farnham Band, and was MD and composer for the Closing Ceremony of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. Chong was musical director fo Kylie Minogue’s Intimate and Live tour.
In 2011 Chong was the music producer for Australia’s Got Talent winner, Jack Vidgen’s debut album. For many years he was musical director for the Seven Network series, Dancing With the Stars. Since 2011, Chong has been music director of the Victorian Schools’ Spectacular. He has arranged and produced albums for many artists, including Rachael Beck, Jessica Mauboy, Mark Vincent and David Campbell.
Chong was nominated for a Helpmann Award for Rolling Thunder Vietnam in 2017.
The following year he was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for
‘significant service to the performing arts as a musician, composer, producer and
musical director, and to the community.’
Drums

Angus Burchall

Angus was born in Melbourne and began drumming at the age of 10. He had a brief career in journalism before joining the John Farnham band shortly after Whispering Jack was recorded and has proudly been John’s drummer ever since. Throughout he has also played with numerous artists - Olivia Newton John, Jimmy Barnes, Kylie Minogue, Tina Arena, Glenn Shorrock, Richard Clapton and several years with the Black Sorrows.
Angus exclusively plays DW drums and Zildijian cymbals.
Guitar

Brett Garsed

Brett was born in rural Victoria, Australia and began playing guitar at age 12 after hearing Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore play Speed King. He is largely self-taught. Brett is perhaps best known for his work as a guitarist with John Farnham and
T. J. Helmerich, as well as being a former member of the American band Nelson. Brett was featured on Derek Sherinian’s solo records Planet X (1999) and Planet X’s Quantum (2007) and Sherinian’s Molecular Heinosity (2010). Brett features on the album Whispering Jack and toured with Farnham and Lionel Ritchie.
Bass

Craig Newman

Craig began musical studies of the age of 12 when he began playing trumpet. At 16, he had developed a keen interest in bass guitar. Craig has toured and worked extensively with many artists, including Kylie Minogue, Eric Burden, Judith Durham,
The Seekers, Thelma Houston, David Hobson, Glenn Shorrock, Olivia Newton-John, Anthony Warlow, Tom Jones, Elvis in Concert – 2017 Australian Tour, George Michael: Listen to your Heart – Australian Tour and Grammy winning L.A. guitarist – Larry Carlton. Craig’s musical theatre credits include Sweet Charity, Dancing Man, The Fully Monty, Dirty Dancing, King Kong,
Jesus Christ Superstar, Lazarus and Come From Away. Craig has recorded and toured with
John Farnham since 2001.
Keyboards

Joe Petrolo

Joe started his career in Perth in 1996 as Keyboardist for the band Faces, performing regularly plus TV appearances and touring throughout Asia. Joe moved to Melbourne in 2005 to further his music career and has since toured extensively with local and international artists such as John Farnham, Russell Morris, Dam Vinh Hung and The Italian Tenors. Joe has also worked on major musicals such as Mamma Mia and Strictly Ballroom.
Guitar

James Ryan

James began studying classical guitar in his early teens before gravitating to electric, and has been largely self taught ever since.

His diverse career taps into many areas of the music industry such as session work, content creation, teaching and music production, as well as working on the TV shows Australia’s Got Talent, The X Factor and Dancing With The Stars

James has toured with Men At Work, Tina Arena, Jon Stevens, Vanessa Amorosi and Kate Ceberano, and is currently the guitarist for Ross Wilson (Daddy Cool/Mondo Rock), The Badloves, and his own band, King Canyon.
